Rethinking Web: Can we do more with less?
🕓 11:40 am - 12:25 pm📍 Cygnet room (Lv 2)
Web developers assemble!
Modern web development has evolved into a web of dependency and abstraction. Before a single page is built, you've installed hundreds of NPM packages, configured your favourite bundler/build tools and committed yourself to a reactive JavaScript framework. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. We accept this because we're influenced by business and community, this is "how it's done".
What if we could challenge the status quo? What if we take pause and reevaluate what the native web can do? Over the years browsers and web view components have matured and become feature rich, allowing us to build compelling web applications with less frameworks and less abstraction.
Join me to discover ways we can reset our web stack, make web development less complex and still have the power to make awesome web apps.
Speaker
Matthew Pierce
Software Developer | Tech Evangelist | Gamer | Dad
My name is Matthew Pierce. I'm a software developer, tech evangelist, gamer, dad and budding speaker. I hybrid work for HSI as a Senior Full Stack Software Developer on the Solv product team. I also run my own company named Cybereon building bespoke web applications and solutions. I am actively developing a JavaScript micro-library called Soba. My passion is to explore technology, harness the best tools and practices to create amazing software. I really enjoy meeting with peers in the industry, forever learning and gaining insights from people. It's my personal goal for 2026 to speak at a conference for the first time. I was inspired by DDD Perth 2025, excited to give knowledge and experience back to the technology community.
