Containerized Developer Environments: Helping Devs help Charities

🕓 1:45 PM - 2:30 PM📍 SoftwareOne - River Room 3 (Lv 3)
How the Coders for Causes, a organisation that develops software for charities and not-for-profit organisations, deals with setting up development environments for 50+ volunteer student developers every project period in an efficient manner using 'dev containers'. A way to package tools like NodeJS, Python, db tools, shell configurations, and Vs Code extensions in a docker container. All-in-all saving time by over 80+ hours per project period and eliminating frustrations caused by "works in my machine" problems for volunteers and mentors so they can focus on what's important - building software for charities!

It’s such a privilege to be able to run this conference and DDD Perth would love to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which DDD is created, presented, and shared, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
