Tech Whisperers

In my past presentations, I’ve created systems that allowed the audience to participate via SMS in the creation of images, this time, we’re taking audience participation to a new level; the SMS contributions will become the very features of a functioning app, assembled live during our interactive presentation. There’s a longstanding trope regarding software developers and their ability to communicate; have you ever seen one talk to a computer? They’re like horse-whisperers, but for binary. AI is testing that though. The topic I want to address in my latest presentation is how we code and communicate, what changed in the last 3 years and, most importantly, where it might be going…we will be discussing a phenomena of “I don't know why but it works' '. With the advent of transformers and advanced “AI”, we have the tools to realize their vision more fully, enabling truly intuitive programming experiences that bring us closer to natural human-computer interaction. But has AI plateaued? As we explore this new frontier, how will the paths of human ingenuity and artificial intelligence converge? We might get a sneak peek if you invite me to build an app with the audience. Will the lowering of barriers through abstraction and AI-assisted programming finally allow the previously othered voices to be heard, reshaping the homogeneous landscape of software development into a rich tapestry of diverse perspective?

It’s such a privilege to be able to run this conference and DDD Perth would love to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which DDD is created, presented, and shared, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
