Crafting beautiful video frames with code

🕓 11:15 am - 12:00 pm📍 River Room 2 (Lv 3)
Programmatic Video is not an intuitive concept. However, if you've spent time using HTML+CSS, you are already familiar with the idea of laying things out on a screen. But what if that 'screen' was actually a video frame? With a timeline? Looking at the current frame number, you can now manipulate individual CSS properties with respect to time. And with some helper functions, you can use video/> and audio/> tags to embed rich media, and synchronise those to the frame number also. If you're like I was many years ago, your mind is now racing with possibilities of gameplay highlight reels and compiling birthday/wedding wish videos. But we can take this a step further, and push that whole pipeline up to the cloud. What kind of data is sitting in your database, with insights to pull out ever day? Could these be videos that you'd want to share to social media, without any oversight? ...would your users want to share these kind of videos, summarising their usage over the year? Let's get creative with that data! Let's define colour thresholds for stock performance, let's display emojis based on sentiment, let's compare stats across the database, and pipe this into AI to give each user a unique description for their behaviour. But most importantly, let's make this look so good you'll have people licking the pixels off their black mirrors 🤤

It’s such a privilege to be able to run this conference and DDD Perth would love to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which DDD is created, presented, and shared, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
