Become a Director of DDD Perth

DDD Perth hopefully needs no introduction if you’re already reading this article. The largest tech conference in WA, we host a one-day event that focuses on four core values:

Inclusivity

Because the tech space is no place for gatekeepers, our conference tries to be as inclusive as we can within our non-profit, volunteer-run bounds.

Accessibility

DDD Perth aims to be accessible to everyone. This means we operate on a Saturday, we have childcare available, babies are welcome and we’re adding to our list every year.

Affordability

DDD Perth keeps its cost to attendees as low as we can and has financial assistance available. The cost ($60) includes coffee to start your day and food to keep you going.

Openness

The open nature of our conference means that we have an open submission process and that everyone who attends gets an opportunity to decide the agenda. We anonymise submissions and we vote, together, based on topic.

DDD Perth is entirely volunteer-run. The conference is made up of many moving parts, and the ship is steered by a committed group of volunteers who somehow pull off an amazing conference year on year. To add more confusing metaphors together, we are truly greater than the sum of our parts.

Open Director Positions

This year, DDD Perth is looking for volunteers who would like to lead some of our key areas.

Director, Logistics

Logistics is the role that brings the whole conference together.

Responsible for corralling our venue, catering, AV suppliers, and volunteers. The Director position is the team lead and involves being the main Point of Contact for the venue. You have enormous influence over the experience of every conference attendee. Your team is responsible for our attendee experience — the conference layout from check-in to sponsors to room layouts, what food to provide and how best to do it, and how best to include any extra like childcare or quiet room

Don’t think you want to sit on the board of DDD Perth, but have ideas about what would make childcare awesome? Then you want to be part of this team.

Director, Audio Visual Solutions

With a huge focus on how people see DDD Perth, and how we are accessible and inclusive for all (think, captioning on our videos!), AV Solutions is responsible for Photos, Captioning, and sharing platforms for photos and videos.

This role has a huge focus on accessibility this year, and you’ll have the budget (our generous Sponsors willing 🎥 😀) to make this work.

Director, Media

🥑 is really the only fitting way to start this role description. This is the role that coordinates our message and the team that will deliver it. From advocates, engagement over all our social media, advertising, right through to our signage, printed agendas, volunteer t-shirts, and the theme of 2022, this role runs with it all. We have talented designers in the team (so don’t feel like you need to know your way ‘round a stylus). We have big plans for DDD Perth 2022, and we need the noise to make sure Perth knows it too!

Being a DDD Perth Member is a new option for involvement in 2022. If you are passionate about one thing at DDD Perth (think, making the quiet room awesome, or voting in the agenda) then being a team member is for you. No committee meetings, just working with your team to create something truly awesome.

We particularly need people who are interested in:

• Design
• Reducing our environmental footprint
• Development (the whole lifecycle)
• Accessibility in all forms (especially if you can’t find a reference to it here)
• Logistics
• Quiet room design
• Experiences for children
• Captioning
• Engagement
