Voting Rules

DDD Perth takes our voting pretty seriously! It’s one of the guiding principles of DDD conferences:

  • It is free / low cost
  • It is on a Saturday
  • An open submissions process
  • A democratically chosen agenda

We extend these for DDD Perth and aim to create an approachable event that appeals to the whole community, especially people that don’t normally get to attend or speak at conferences. We do this by:

  • Making the ticket price as low as possible ($60 in 2019)
  • Running the event on a Saturday
  • Allowing anyone to submit about any software industry related topic
  • Having a democratically chosen agenda
  • Focussing on creating a safe and inclusive environment where everyone is welcome

So, let’s get into the nitty gritty of voting in DDD Perth 2019.

Got a ticket? Get a vote!

Yep, you read that right. This year, we’re restricting voting to ticket holders only. You’ll need your ticket number, which should be emailed to you.

Last year, DDD Perth was essentially sold out before the agenda was released. With that in mind, we’re asking you to help build the conference. Buy a ticket and you have a say in what the agenda for 2019 looks like!

Anonymous voting

We de-identify submissions before voters see them. If there’s a speaker name in the abstract, it’s removed and replaced with *Speaker*. The same goes for names of workplaces.

Don’t worry about who submitted the talk

Following on from Anonymous Voting…please don’t try to subvert the anonymous voting process. We ask submitters not to promote their talk, and we ask you to vote based on abstract only.

Vote for your ideal agenda

This is pretty important. Every voter will get a set number of votes, and you’ll be asked to rank your preferred talks. If you want to see a few backend talks, a few talks on design, a few talks on professional skills….then vote for them!

Take your time

Please, have fun reading the different abstracts, and deciding what interests you! There’s so much talent in the Perth software industry, you’ll be inspired just reading about the breadth of topics that the community are passionate about.

Ready? OK!

Voting for DDD Perth 2019 goes live on June 8 and you’ll have one week to vote. Stay tuned on social media or join our mailing list (opens in a new tab), or go to https://dddperth.com/ (opens in a new tab) on June 8!

It's such a privilege to be able to run this conference and DDD Perth would love to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which DDD is created, presented, and shared, the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
